Journalists on Pinterest
Nearly every day it feels like a new social media platform is entering the scene. While Facebook and Twitter remain dominant in social media a newer contender is rising to the top: Pinterest.
Pinterest allows users to post photos from around the internet (or their own) to “boards” which other Pinterest users are able to see. Users are finding inspiration for all kinds of activities like DIY home projects, fashion inspiration, and recipes. However, with more users flocking to the site intrepid journalists are trying to tap into the sites popularity.
Vocus’ blog “InVocus” recently posted an article detailing how journalists are using the new social media outlet to post their stories to. One journalist, and Pinterest user, Tim Devaney featured in the post said in his posts he tries to, “focus on getting good quality content on those boards whether it’s my story or some story on the Web”. So not only is he posting his own content he is curating a space for his followers on the things he believes they will deem important as well. The journalist also believes his use of Pinterest puts himself a “step ahead of other journalists”.
